America Bikes Affiliated Organizations


Adventure Cycling
Founded in 1973 as Bikecentennial, Adventure Cycling Association is America's premier member-supported, not-for-profit organization dedicated to bicycle travel. Our mission is simply to inspire people of all ages to travel by bicycle. We help cyclists explore the landscapes and history of America for fitness, fun and self discovery. With nearly 37,000 members currently finding freedom and adventure on the open road through the organization's many programs, including a national network of bicycle touring routes and an offering of organized trips, Adventure Cycling is America's bicycle travel inspiration and resource.

 

Association of Bicycle and Pedestrian Professionals
Founded in 1995, the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals promotes excellence in the emerging professional discipline of pedestrian and bicycle transportation. Our members include leaders in the engineering, planning, landscape architecture, safety and promotion fields who specialize in improving conditions for bicycling and walking. They work for federal, state, regional and local government; consulting firms; non-profit organizations and the media. The association also welcomes academics, students and professional advocates who are committed to making bicycling and walking viable transportation options in the United States.
Bikes Belong
Bikes Belong Coalition is a membership organization founded by bicycle industry leaders with the mission of "putting more people on bikes more often." Bikes Belong Coalition lobbies for bicycle friendly policy in Washington, D.C., promotes bicycling to the public, supports other groups pursuing similar goals, and distributes grants for bicycle facility projects. Bikes Belong Coalition works with political leaders and national advocacy groups to encourage development of additional projects and other ridership building initiatives
International Mountain Bicycling Association
IMBA creates, enhances and preserves trail opportunities for mountain bikers worldwide. Since 1988, IMBA has been bringing out the best in mountain biking by encouraging low-impact riding, volunteer trailwork participation, cooperation among different trail user groups, and innovative trail management solutions.
League of America Bicyclists The League of American Bicyclists promotes bicycling for fun, fitness and transportation and works through advocacy and education for a bicycle-friendly America. The League represents the interests of the nation's 42 million cyclists. With a current membership of 300,000 affiliated cyclists, including 40,000 individuals and 600 affiliated organizations, the League works to bring better bicycling to your community.
National Center for Bicycling and Walking
For 25 years, the National Center for Bicycling & Walking (founded as the Bicycle Federation of America) has been working for more bicycle-friendly and walkable communities. The NCBW offers information support, training, consultation services and resources to public agencies, non-governmental organizations and advocates, maintains the NCBW Resource Center, publishes the eNewsletter CenterLines, and a quarterly journal, NCBW Forum, and organizes the biennial Pro Bike/Pro Walk Conference and other special meetings.
Rails-to-Trails Conservancy
The purpose of Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) is to enrich America's communities and countryside by creating a nationwide network of public trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. RTC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with more than 100,000 members and supporters. Founded in 1986, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is located in Washington, D.C. and has offices in California, Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
 
Thunderhead Alliance
Creating, strengthening and uniting State and local bicycle advocacy organizations. The Thunderhead Alliance is the national coalition of state and local bicycle advocacy organizations. As of March 2003, they have 74 member organizations in 38 states. Thunderhead helps these groups share information and grows each group's capacity to win better bicycle projects and programs in their communities. Collectively, Thunderhead Alliance groups have the power to influence national funding and policy to better bicycling
