The Next Mile: America's To Do List of Bicycle and Pedestrian Projects

We are up and running at http://nextmile.americabikes.org!

The Next Mile project is an effort of America Bikes to create an online database of the bicycle and pedestrian projects that communities across the nation want to see built next.

We plan to ask the many members of the bicycle and pedestrian community a simple question, “What are the next 5 'ready-to-go' bicycling and walking priorities in your area?”

We want to hear from state and local officials, as well as advocates on the ground, exactly what their top 5 are – Where do they want to see the next mile of cycle track, sidewalk or trail in their town? We will take their answers and put all of these projects together in a list showing every project’s location, cost information and how 'shovel-ready' each project is. Each project will be verified by a state or local bicycle and pedestrian coordinator as well as continually updated as the project progresses.

This dynamic list will bring attention to these ready-to-go projects, highlight their importance to decision makers at every level of government, and allow everyone from advocates to Senators to follow their progress. Moreover, as opportunities for funding become available, the Next Mile list will provide a clear look at what projects are ready-to-go priorities.

America Bikes and various partners will be populating the database over the next few months by performing extensive outreach to state, regional and local governments, and the bicycle and pedestrian advocacy community. This effort will collect and organize information about the top projects around the country.
