The Safe Highways and Infrastructure Preservation Act of 2009

This is a bill in the House (H.R. 1618) and Senate (S. 779) that prevents the constant increases in truck sizes and weights on the non-Interstate portion of the federal National Highway System (NHS) that endanger other drivers as well as our roads and bridges.

Larger trucks are less safe for everyone else on the road – taking longer to stop and rolling over more frequently. Larger trucks also increase damage to the highways and bridges they drive on, costing more public money to fix our already under-repaired infrastructure system.
